Spam spiders, e-mail harvesters, robots or bots. They go by many different names but they have one purpose.

They are computer programs that trawl the Internet, going from one website to the next, looking for e-mail addresses. Every e-mail address they find is added to their list so that spammers can then use this list to flood your inbox with offers such as:-

“Rolex watches for a couple of hundred quid.”
“You’ve won a lottery you didn’t enter, so send us all your bank details, including passwords etc. so we can transfer the money in.”
“These pills will transform your life.”
“Invest in these shares and you’ll be rich by next week.”

You know the ones, we all get them.  Anti-spam filters can only do so much to protect us from the junk.  The best trick is to hide your address from these pests.  This is what I have done, (and many other webmasters are also doing), using something called JavaScript.

Not all computers can display JavaScript, because although it can be harmless if used properly, (as in this case), it can also be used maliciously by unscrupulous websites, so Internet Security Software often turns it off. If you know how to turn it on for this site, you will see the message in the box below and you will be able to send mail.

If you can’t see the message in the box, you won’t be able to send mail to my normal address but I have alternative disposable addresses that you could use. Don’t add this one to your address book. It is not disguised, so the spammers will soon find it.  As soon as they do, I will dump it and put another disposable address here. If you want to contact me again in the future, come back here for my latest disposable address.
