Gran's stolen fish returned
By Ben Griffin, Coventry Evening Telegraph

Fish worth thousands of pounds which were stolen in a wheelie-bin have been mysteriously returned.

The Koi carp were fished from a pond in Coventry, and loaded into a wheelie-bin filled with water.

The owner, grandmother-of-three Mrs. B____, aged 77, told the Evening Telegraph last week how she and her 13-year-old granddaughter had been left upset by the theft.

Following the article she received a number of phone calls and visits of support from her neighbours.

This week she received an anonymous phone call saying the fish would be returned and on Monday night they were left outside the house in a tank.

Her daughter, Mrs. S____,  said: "It was marvellous. There were tears all round. The whole family were just ecstatic."

Sadly three of the 10 fish had died, but the rest remain healthy.

Mrs S____ believes the thieves had a pang of conscience after seeing how distressed Mrs. B____ was in the Evening Telegraph article.

Mrs B____, who lives with her son in-law, aged 46, and his 13-year-old daughter, said she was delighted to have the fish back.

She added: "I was just happy to get them back. I am surprised that we did. They are all swimming around in the big pool together now."
